The Untethered Soul: The Journey Beyond YourselfThe Untethered Soul: The Journey Beyond Yourself by Michael A. Singer
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The author, Michael A. Singer, has packed a lot of interesting ideas and recommendations for improving one’s spiritual mindset in a relatively slim book. It reads quickly, and though I bookmarked some passages to review later, I found other sections repetitive. The book discusses the knots that keep us tethered and prevent growth. Some of the advice, such as letting go of fear altogether sounds great, but perhaps hard to achieve for someone starting out on this path of spiritual growth because it requires tremendous self-awareness, discipline, and practice. Nonetheless, I came away with new ways to think about fear and anxiety, their relationship to clarity and energy, and how it affects our outlook, perceptions and relationships. While I found the book enlightening overall, the chapter I enjoyed the most was toward the end, “The Secret of the Middle Way”, about the concept of Tao. I would recommend The Untethered Soul to any reader interested in understanding fear and working at letting go of issues that keep one from moving forward.
